Shamanic Journeying...
The shamanic journey is the foundation of all shamanic work. Assisted by the rhythmic percussion of a drum or rattle or bells, one is able to drop into controlled, voluntary trance and perceive beyond ordinary daily reality. MRI studies have shown that shamanic work occurs in the theta state, when brain waves slow to roughly 4-7 herz (MJ Hove et al. 2016, Cerebral Cortex). This is a normal state that everyone naturally slips in and out of during sleep. In shamanic journeying, one learns to enter into and gradually maintain this quality for increasing periods of time.
The shamanic journey is a method to thin the veil that separates the ordinary and the extraordinary. It is often described as a state of ecstasy or soul flight (Shamanism: Archaic Techniques of Ecstasy, Mircea Eliade). In the traditional paradigm, shamans performed trance work to bring back guidance and healing for clients, but everyone is capable of expanding their consciousness to experience direct spiritual revelation themself.
Working one-on-one or in small groups, we’ll explore the fundamentals and different techniques of shamanic journeying to discover what resonates and is most effective for you. This practice will allow you to enter into direct contact and develop strong personal relationships with ancestors and spirit allies. When one steps into this body of work, the boundaries of separation crumble and the interconnectedness of all life becomes visible. Spirit often brings one into greater communion with nature, and the gifts are teaching and insight for living a grounded, purpose-led life.
